Kouga
Africa A+ Schools (A+) is in the final year of this five-year project that is designed to improve the quality of ECD in the Kouga district of Eastern Cape (Humansdorp and surrounding areas). This is a collaborative project between A+ and the Centre for Early Childhood Development (CECD in Cape Town). CECD is deals mainly with infrastructural and administrative aspects of the schools, while A+ is focussed on the pedagogical training of school staff. A+ trains teachers in the A+ approach to quality teaching and learning. In addition, A+ trains a number of Community Facilitators who assist with the workshops and, in future, will sustain the training locally beyond the duration of the project. The Kouga project is the first large training project undertaken by Africa A+ Schools. It has helped us to consolidate our philosophy and methods of training, established during the initial pilot project, and which are now also being applied to other large projects elsewhere in the country. As such, it has been invaluable to our organization and professional staff.
