Kouga

This five-year project was designed to improve the quality of ECD in the Kouga district of Eastern Cape (Humansdorp and surrounding areas). It was a collaborative project between A+ and the Centre for Early Childhood Development (CECD, in Cape Town). CECD dealt mainly with infrastructural and administrative aspects of the schools, while A+ was focussed on pedagogical training of school staff. A+ trained teachers in the A+ approach to quality teaching and learning. In addition, A+ trained seven Community Facilitators who assisted with the workshops, and now sustain the training locally beyond the duration of the project, which came to an end in the middle of 2025. The Kouga project was the first large training project undertaken by Africa A+ Schools. It helped us to consolidate our philosophy and methods of training, established during the initial pilot project, and which are now being applied to other projects elsewhere in the country. As such, it has been invaluable experience to our organization and to our professional staff.
